Less than 100 Days Away...

Election Day is coming.

Yes, it is still only July. But Election Day is less than 100 days away.

Martin Luther King spoke about "the fierce urgency of now." Today, Senator Obama has referenced Dr. King’s idea, saying that the time is now to bring the change we need.

With the Hirsh campaign, we definitely understand the "fierce urgency of now." We have less than 100 days to share our message of change. We have less than 100 days to advocate for decreasing Pennsylvania’s dependence on foreign oil, making health care more affordable for all Pennsylvanians, and reforming our property tax system.

This past week has been no exception. As always, we have been busy with our regular campaign activities, such as holding Community Canvasses and attending community events. But it was important for our campaign to take the time to talk about the misdirection of our priorities. Judy spoke for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party at a rally on Wednesday in the Capital Rotunda. The rally was about having a new direction for Pennsylvania and the entire United States. Judy spoke about the failed politics of Washington D.C. and Harrisburg.

We need to get our priorities right. Now, for the cost of just five hours of war in Iraq, we could help about 568,000 Pennsylvania households pay their home heating bills – double the number we help now. For the 98 days left until the election, our campaign will fight for better priorities in America, including in Harrisburg.

Later in the week, the executive council of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO endorsed Judy. Our campaign is proud to have the support of the commonwealth’s largest labor organization, representing 1.2 million union workers and their families. We need a senator in Central Pennsylvania who is a true friend of working families, and who understands workers’ struggles with soaring prices for energy, health care, and food. Under a "fierce urgency," our campaign will fight everyday to make sure that we have that kind of senator after Election Day.
